Description

Kekkilä’s Straw Mulch is Finnish grain straw sifted and cut to user-friendly length. Straw Mulch is naturally suitable for mulching potato, strawberry, perennial and vegetable gardens as well as between sown lines.  The mulch prevents sludge formation and splashing during rain, keeping plants, for example strawberries, clean. Shallow-rooted plants, such as onions, benefit from the warming properties of the mulch.

Like other ground-covering mulches, Straw Mulch has good moisture retention and reduces the need to water.  The mulch also activates micro-organisms in the soil, making the plants grow better. In addition, the mulch prevents the growth of weeds.
It can also be used as pet litter and an intermediate medium in an open compost.

User instruction

Apply Straw Mulch around seedlings after planting or when the sown plants have germinated. Suitable thickness of the layers is 3-5 cm, but small seedlings require less. The old mulch can be mixed into the ground for ground improvement, or new mulch can be applied on top of it.
