Description

Kekkilä Winter Defence is designed for protecting frost-tender plants, such as roses and clematis as well as a variety of perennials and bulbous plants. In spring, the peat can be used for soil improvement or composting.

Winter Defence is made from specially dried peat that rejects water. The product contains no lime or fertilisers.

Instructions

Prepare grouped roses for winter by covering the rose bed with a 20 cm layer of Kekkilä Winter Defence when the soil is frozen. Avoid pruning roses in autumn to prevent moisture from getting in through the cuts and breaking the shoots into two when frozen. Take climbing roses and large flowered clematis down from the trellis or lay the entire trellis together with the plants down on the ground and cover in the same way as grouped roses.

The stems of large flowered clematis are extremely frost-tender and may freeze despite protection. This is not a problem, however, as the plant will produce basal shoots. Frost-tender perennials can be protected by covering them with a 10 cm layer of Winter Defence.

Remove Winter Defence in spring as soon as the snow has melted. The peat can be used for soil improvement.
